University of Idaho student Esther Ngumbi from Kenya shared the stage as guest speaker with Jim Morris, executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Ngumbi is completing her doctoral degree in CALS’ Department of Plant, Soil and Entomological Sciences.

At Alabama’s Auburn University Second War on Hunger Summit for American Universities, Ngumbi illustrated dire conditions in her country with mesmerizing photos and personal stories from people she knows who benefit from WFP programs.

By 2003 the number of undernourished people worldwide reached 854 million, 9 million of those in industrialized countries. Learn more at www.wfp.org/.
