Close to 9,000 acres in the Pacific Northwest this year bloomed brilliant yellow with the first condiment mustard ever developed in the United States. Breeder Jack Brown says IdaGold, which the University of Idaho released this year, is better adapted to the Northwests environment than the Canadian varieties growers here normally plant. New Jersey-based Reckitt Benckiser, maker of Frenchs Mustard, plans to purchase more than a million pounds of this years harvest for use in a large-scale evaluation. If IdaGold passes muster, you could be squeezing it onto your ballpark franks.
