by Marlene Fritz
What a gem! The University of Idaho Extension horticulture team is wowing Idaho gardeners with its just-in-time-for-planting Idaho Landscapes & Gardens Web site. Calling it a “one-stop shop for those who wish to approach gardening from an educated perspective,” team leader Steve Love says it’s designed for the aspiring as well as the advanced gardener.

The site blooms with ready-to-use information on gardening basics; fruit, vegetables, and herbs; trees, shrubs, and vines; insects, diseases, and weeds; lawns and turfs; ornamental plants; garden wildlife; and landscape design principles. Its sage advice is tuned to Idaho’s climate and growing conditions.
Users can learn how to select grape varieties, how high to mow their lawns, how to save water with their landscape design, which perennials are best suited to their specific sites, when to prune their woody plants, how to help beneficial insects feel at home in their yards, and hundreds of other essential tips for rewarding gardening. They’ll also find links to carefully selected, comprehensive sites.
