Families around the world celebrate birthdays as a chance to reflect on the past and anticipate the future. The UI family is celebrating in much the same way on the College of Agriculture’s 100th birthday.

While we can celebrate numerous accomplishments in agriculture and rural communities across the state, ranging from new wheat varieties to potato storage techniques and animal vaccines, our greatest contribution has been our impact on people’s lives.

Since the college’s creation in 1901, we have graduated more than 7,000 students. Many have made tremendous contributions in government, local communities, and many fields. Our Golden I graduates of 50 years ago or more have consistently ranked the years they spent with us among the most important of their lives.

People are also the focus of our research and extension programs. A key element of our heritage as a land-grant university is to assure that our research gets applied and used through the extension programs we provide and we do that through people.

What about the future? The programs we offer and the technology we develop will be different, but we will always focus on listening to the needs of the people and on delivering the educational and research programs that enable them to be successful.
Our motto is unchanged: “Meeting the needs of Idaho’s greatest resource . . . its people.”
