Seedcorn beetle adult

Seedcorn Beetle
Stenolophus lecontei (Chaudoir)

Adults are small, slender, flattened, brown to dark brown, and sometimes striped ground beetles about 8 mm long. They cause damage mainly in the spring by feeding on newly planted corn seeds and hollowing them out. Damage usually occurs when poor quality seed has been planted and/or when cool, wet weather prevails. Damage can be avoided by planting good seed in warm soil.
