Sugarbeet Crown Borer
Hulstia undulatella (Clemens)

Adults are small gray moths about 12 mm long. A small red spot usually appears near the base of the forewing, and several zigzag lines are found near the wing margin. Larvae are dirty brown, slender, somewhat flattened, and sometimes tinted green. Larvae feed on the plant crown just under or just above ground level. They are usually found in dust-covered silk tunnels. The first spring generation is the most damaging.
