Corn earworm immature larva and damage

Helicoverpa zea (Boddie)

Larvae are caterpillars about 35 mm long with light and dark stripes along the body. The color can vary from green, tan, or pink to dark brown. Adults are tan-colored moths. The larva feeds on or burrows into many above-ground vegetables. Damage is usually more severe in light soils and populations are very cyclic. Host plants: corn, tomatoes, beans, eggplant, cabbage, fruits, peas, peppers, ornamentals, squash, strawberries.
