Beet armyworm immature larva

Beet Armyworm
Spodoptera exigua (Hübner)

Mature caterpillars are 50 mm long with light stripes along the body. They are similar to the western yellowstriped armyworm but lack the inverted ''Y'' on the head. Adults are grayish-brown moths. The larva feeds on leaves causing plant defoliation. Host plants: sugar beets, alfalfa, hops, vegetables.
