Root Aphid
Pemphigus populivenae Fitch
This aphid
is found on the roots. It is pale yellow and
surrounded by a white, mold-like wax. Several
generations are produced on sugarbeet roots each
season. When the aphids suck sap from the roots,
the leaves become light or yellowish-green, wilt,
and sometimes die. Infested beets are usually
short and have many hair roots. Host plants:
sugarbeets, dock, grasses, poplar.
