Frequently asked questions

Q: How can I order publications and/or videos?
A: You can order publications by mail, phone, fax, & email. See our How to Order page for instructions and a printable order form.

Q: Can I use my credit card to order publications?
A: Yes, but not if you order via email. This method is not secure, please do not send your credit card information via email.

Q: Every time I try to view a PDF document on your site my computer freezes and/or it takes forever for the entire document to show up!
A: There could be several reasons for this problem. (1) Some PDF documents are too large for quick display (especially if you have a slow connection). (2) There could also be a problem with the Acrobat Reader plug-in in your browser. (3) Installing the most current Adobe Acrobat Reader version may also help.

The easiest way around this problem is to download the document to your hard drive.

To do that, right-click (or click and hold if your mouse has only one button) on the link to the PDF document. Then, once a menu pops up, select "Save Link As.." (Netscape) or "Save Target As.." (Internet Explorer) and save the PDF to your hard drive. Once it's saved just double-click on the file and it should open up in Acrobat Reader.

Q: Why PDF?
A: PDF is an acronym for Portable Document Format. It is a file format that allows publishers to provide files to users in a common format. PDFs will display and print properly on any platform that supports them. Agricultural Communications publishes in PDF because it is the most common portable document format available on the web. To view or print a PDF, you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader—a free software tool provided by Adobe Inc., the developers of the PDF standard. You can download it from Adobe's web site.

Detailed Search Help
The Resources for Idaho Google Search supports a number of different methods for performing searches.

Description Search
Simply describe the information that you want.
Example: Pruning shrubs

Question Search
Ask a question that you want answered.
Example: How do I prune shrubs and small trees?

Keyword Search
List important keywords relevant to your search topic.
Example: prune shrub tree

Boolean Keyword Search
Refine a keyword search using Boolean operators. Boolean operators allow you to more accurately specify the concepts for which you are searching. For example, an AND search such as "prune & shrub" would return only documents that contained both words and would not return documents with only one of the words.
To help define a Boolean search, try writing your search keywords in a phrase using the words: and, or, and not. Then substitute the appropriate symbols.
Example: strawberries and spiders but not insects
becomes: strawberries & spiders ! insects

Symbol Meaning Action
& AND
ALL
Finds only documents containing all of the specific words or phrases.
Example: prune & shrub finds documents with both the word "prune" and the word "shrub".
| OR
ANY
Finds documents containing any of the specified words or phrases.
Example: shrub | tree finds documents containing either "shrub" or "tree" or both words.
! NOT
NONE
Excludes documents containing the specific word or phrase.
Example: shrub ! tree finds documents containing "shrub" but not containing "tree". As with the & and | operators, ! must appear between two terms.
[ ] Group Used to group portions of Boolean queries together for more complicated queries.
Example: prune & [shrub | tree] ! grass finds documents containing "prune" and either "shrub" or "tree" but not "grass".
