The Ranch

The Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center is located in the Salmon River’s scenic valley six miles north of Salmon along U.S. Highway 93.

Its emphasis on education is unique among the centers operated statewide by the University of Idaho’s College of Agriculture. It is UI’s first new research and extension center in 50 years.

The 924-acre property near Carmen, Idaho, has a long history of producing cattle. Nearly 600 acres are planted to alfalfa and grass for hay production. Another 245 acres are pasture. Ranch facilities include a home for the ranch manager, bunkhouse, shop and cattle-handling structures. A 60- by 140-foot multipurpose metal building is under construction for educational programs and other uses.
